"Down on Penny's Farm" was featured in the album "Anthology of American Folk Music," released by Folkway Records in 1952. The album comprised eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. The Anthology is considered an important touchstone that launched the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s. Since then, the song has been played and popularized by Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Natalie Merchant and others.
